Why Bombay?

Bombay. Every time I hear the word Bombay, I feel homely. And that is so because this place is welcoming. It welcomed me in 2002 and ever since then I cannot stay away from Bombay, my home.

I dint realize the way I felt for Bombay until last year when I dared to leave it for working in another city. Although I joined a firm in Pune I was sent away for three months to Hyderabad and Kolkata for a specific training. And it would be an understatement to say that I missed Bombay.

I missed Bombay when I saw WB or AP on the number plates of vehicles. I missed Bombay when I couldn’t hear people talking about the local food and the local hangouts. It killed me to be away. After those three months I moved to Pune, where I worked for another five months and there wasn’t a single weekend that I dint come back to Bombay.

More than my people I missed the way I felt here- at home. Parting with Bombay for an indefinite duration was the worst thing I’ve ever done to myself. And the day I quit my job in Pune, I made a promise to myself. Promise that say I’ll never leave Bombay again. If I do leave, it’ll be only for a short time just to make myself fall in love with this city again.

Moving on from what Bombay means to me, let’s see what Bombay means to few others. “Mumbai to Maharashtra. Bombay to India”, said @thandibeer from Delhi, extremely interesting but even though I am from Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is still Bombay to me, has been and always will be.

“Chaos. Never a dull moment”, said @rajivrao8, with whom I totally agree. When I was in various other cities, I missed the constant hustle bustle we have here. And the last point I’d like to mention for Bombay is, “Bay of bombs” from @grey_coin. This is extremely gloomy but factual. I wouldn’t boast the “spirit” of Bombay, how just after the terrorist attacks, everything’s back to being like nothing ever happened. I’d rather say people here have no choice but to be like that. Bombay has some serious responsibilities towards the country and we Bombay-ites take that seriously.

I hope by my first post would justify the reason of coming up with this blog.
